Tinker Bell 10K Race Recap

AMAZING is what I would say if I only had one word to recap this Running/Mother’s Day weekend.

Close ups of the 5K and 10K medals!

As always, RunDisney knows how to put on a show. Running through the parks is magical and is what you pay a premium for over other races. This was a great race for my parents and me. We trained to walk it with short bursts of running interspersed and I’m proud to say that my Mom and Dad got a PR this past weekend! *high fives all around*

We stayed at the Disneyland Hotel for the first time ever as well. As a kid, I was lucky enough to go to Disneyland every year for my birthday since we lived pretty close. That being said, there was no reason to stay at the Disneyland Hotel because we could just drive home but I have always wanted to stay there! It did not disappoint. I decided to splurge since it was Mother’s Day. I have to say that it was absolutely magical! Chip greeted my parents at check-in. And it was so convenient having the expo and finish line at/close to the hotel. Just go ahead and take all my money RunDisney why don’t you!?!

My parents and I finished in 1:54 and my hubby came to cheer us on. I loved that my Mom had enough energy to sprint at the end. She said she did it for her coach (me). After checking out, we had a big character breakfast at Storyteller’s Cafe at the Grand Californian. There we met up with one of my best friends and his sister from out of town who completed the Neverland 5k, their first race ever!

Afterward, the hubster and I had a Disney date wandering around the parks. Those are the best. πŸ™‚

Thanks, RunDisney! You know you’re my favorite. Until the Disneyland 10K in September!

Quick shot I got of Radiator Springs Racers. This was toward the end of the 10K.

Mile 6! .2 to go! Woohoo!

Love the bling!

Star Wars 10K Recap

The inaugural Star Wars 10K came and went and was really awesome. As I wasn’t prepared, I walk-ran it with my pal B at intervals of :30 run :30 walk. With some camera ops, bathroom breaks, and catching up, the six miles zoomed by and we finished in a very comfortable 1:30.

We stayed the night at Disneyland’s Paradise Pier Hotel and got upgraded to a nice top floor room with a view of California Adventure!

The expo was great! After the 10K, we gallivanted around Disneyland (we have annual passes) and went back to the expo. I got to meet Jeff Galloway, Olympian and champion of the run-walk-run method, who has gotten me through basically all my races. I sort of fangirl-ed (haha) and even got a picture with him.Β He was super cool and nice.

Next up on the running calendar is the Hollywood 10K in April. My lofty goal for this year is to break an hour (right now, my PR is 1:15). I have a few more 10Ks lined up after that and maybe a half marathon. Let’s see if I can do it!

Running Journey

My running journey has been long but sporadic. I started in late 2004 when I decided out of nowhere I was going to bucket-list train for and complete a marathon (I did using the Galloway run-walk-run method. He’s awesome.).

Β I love and hate running. The burning in your lungs when you’ve run past your capabilities, the “cruise-control” runner’s high you get when you’re a little more fit and past the warm up-this sucks-why am I doing this again?-phase. I love … and hate it all.

I get annoyed with myself that once I start making real progress, running faster and longer more easily, I let something get in the way (usually laziness) and I stop. I usually stop right after completing a race. And then I have to start ALL OVER AGAIN (ugh) after a few months.

I’ve done a couple marathons, lots of half marathons and 10ks and one 5k. I love me a good RunDisney race.

2014 was a super busy year for me in my non-running life. Looking for and buying my first home (yay!), getting married (yay hubby!), laziness (it’s too early! it’s too cold/dark outside), etc., all took away from my running. But I managed to run a half, 5k and 10k last year, and that was about it. To look good for my wedding, I decided to stop running and focus on doing the 30 day shred to tone up. It worked. πŸ™‚

Sorry running. I’m a fair-weather friend.

But now I’m back! Hopefully more permanently. I have a 10k this Saturday that I’m ill-prepared for. I ran 2 miles last Saturday after doing NO running for two months. My brain wanted to keep going, my body was like, WTF? Haha. I’m still sore.

I’m going to start the Couch-to-5k after my 10k. Then slowly but surely move myself up to an easy 3 miles again. Then hopefully keep it up!
