My running journey has been long but sporadic. I started in late 2004 when I decided out of nowhere I was going to bucket-list train for and complete a marathon (I did using the Galloway run-walk-run method. He’s awesome.).
I love and hate running. The burning in your lungs when you’ve run past your capabilities, the “cruise-control” runner’s high you get when you’re a little more fit and past the warm up-this sucks-why am I doing this again?-phase. I love … and hate it all.
I get annoyed with myself that once I start making real progress, running faster and longer more easily, I let something get in the way (usually laziness) and I stop. I usually stop right after completing a race. And then I have to start ALL OVER AGAIN (ugh) after a few months.
I’ve done a couple marathons, lots of half marathons and 10ks and one 5k. I love me a good RunDisney race.
2014 was a super busy year for me in my non-running life. Looking for and buying my first home (yay!), getting married (yay hubby!), laziness (it’s too early! it’s too cold/dark outside), etc., all took away from my running. But I managed to run a half, 5k and 10k last year, and that was about it. To look good for my wedding, I decided to stop running and focus on doing the 30 day shred to tone up. It worked. 🙂
Sorry running. I’m a fair-weather friend.
But now I’m back! Hopefully more permanently. I have a 10k this Saturday that I’m ill-prepared for. I ran 2 miles last Saturday after doing NO running for two months. My brain wanted to keep going, my body was like, WTF? Haha. I’m still sore.
I’m going to start the Couch-to-5k after my 10k. Then slowly but surely move myself up to an easy 3 miles again. Then hopefully keep it up!
